Currently, over 580,000 international students are studying in the U.S. The U.S. offers schools to suit almost anyone’s wants or needs. There are small specialized colleges and huge university campuses. Programs range from undergraduate, graduate and beyond in places all over the United States. The U.S. government also offers scholarships and grants. Check out our website for more information. | Christine Meyer: Hello - thanks for your question Mina. I hope that you had a great time participating in the iEARN program. Participation in one program does not mean that you can't participate in another program. For many of the educational exchanges, participants are chosen not only on their strong academic record, but on leadership and (very important!) their service in the community. |

| Christine Meyer: شكرا لسؤالك .تتيح الولايات المتحدة الامريكية الفرصة للعديد من الشعوب من مختلف انحاء العالم لزيارتها والدراسة بها. يدرس حاليا 580.000 طالب دولي فى الولايات المتحدة الامريكية .تقدم الحكومة الامريكية فرص عديدة للسفر والتبادل الثقافي. وكذلك يغطي بعض الطلاب المصاريف بانفسهم والبعض الاخر يحصل علي منح خاصة.

| Christine Meyer: Hello and thank you for your questions. I'll address the third part of your submission. The U.S. government offers a program called the YES program - it stands for Youth Exchange and Study. Participants are high school students who go to the U.S. for one academic year. They live with a host family - so they have a very real American experience. They take meals with their host family, go to school, participate in extracurricular activities, etc. When they return to their home country, they are able to share their experience with family and friends. Many of the YES alumni here in Egypt have projects to give back to their communities and are very active. |

university students on a variety of subjects. Students and administrators can also request that Embassy personnel talk to them by submitting a request to the Embassy Speaker Program.

على محمو: انا على محمود طالب بالسنه التالثة قسم الاتصالات والالكترونيات كلية الهندسة جامعة القاهرة اريد ان اسأل ماهى العقبات التى قد تواجهنى اذا اردت ان اكمل دراستى فى الولايات المتحدة او بمعنى آخر ما هى الخطوات التى يجب على اتباعها (بالتفصيل )لكى اكمل دراستى هناك وماهى المشاكل التى قد تواجهنى فى الدراسة (هلى اللغة ، طريقه التعلم ،.......) وشكرا |
| Christine Meyer: عزيزى على, يواجه الطلبة الامريكيون ايضا تحديات مع بداية الدراسة في جامعة جديدة. وهنا في مصر , اسمع احيانا من بعض الطلبة عن قلقهم من كيفية معاملة الشعب الامريكي لهم وكذلك من كيفية التأقلم علي المعيشة هناك . اما من ناحية اللغة, اعتقد انه يجب ان يكون لديك اساس قوي فى اللغة الانجليزية قبل التقدم للدراسة في الولايات المتحدة .وليس هناك افضل من اللغة للاندماج بسهولة مع ثقافة اخري . وكذلك نظام التدريس سيكون مختلف في الولايات المتحدة، ويعد التفاعل من اهم مميزات نظام التعليم في امريكا . يتوقع الاساتذة الاسئلةوالتجاوب من الطلاب . وانا احياتا اتحدث مع بعض الطلبة المصريين الذين يشاركون في برامج التبادل الثقافي وكان الكثير منهم قلق من الذهاب الي امريكا قبل السفر ولكن سريعا ما اكتشفوا ان هذا الخوف لم يكن له اي داعي . يرجع جزء من هذا الي تفتح الشعب الامريكي ولكن الجزء الاكبر يرجع الي صداقة الشعب المصري المعروفة . و شكرا |

| Christine Meyer: Hello Nesma, Each university has its own set of requirements to study for a Masters. First, I would suggest finding a program that is suitable for you. After that, you should get in contact with the university to see what financial aid options they have. Some universities offer research opportunities. Again, you'll have to check with individual schools. AMIDEAST can also provide guidance. |

| Christine Meyer: Although at present I am not aware of US government sponsored exchange opportunities for accountants, I am sure that there are private exchanges in this field. You might want to check out some of the big accounting firms' websites and professional associations, as well as organizations such as Rotary for more information. This applies for other fields as well.

| Christine Meyer: Hello Sameh, Thank you for your question. Right now, Fulbright has a program open for English teachers, the deadline is December 12. In January or February, there will be announcements for other programs. Here is some more information about two of these programs MEPI and the NESA Undergraduate Scholarship program - Both the MEPI program and the Undergraduate Scholarship program provide excellent opportunities to enhance one’s leadership skills and learn about the U.S. The experiences that participants have stay with them forever. The MEPI Summer Institute for Leaders is a six-week program for young leaders aged 18-21. They spend 6 weeks in the U.S. on college campuses, interacting with students from across the Middle East and the U.S. The call for applications will probably go out in January or February. The application will be posted on the U.S. Embassy website - http://egypt.usembassy.gov/. The Near East and South Asia (NESA) Undergraduate Program provides an unique opportunity for students to study for one semester or one year at a U.S. university. The participants not only take classes, but have an internship and volunteer in the community. 2007 was the first year that this was offered. It is a highly competitive program. We anticipate that the call for nominations will go out in January or February. Also, we have a mailing list for people who are interested in learning about educational exchange opportunities, lectures and seminars. | Christine Meyer: Hello Ahmed - Each school has its own requirements, so you'll have to check with them. Deadlines for college vary but many are between November and February. This brings up a good point. It is important to have lots of time for planning if you want to study in the U.S. Each test takes time, and there are many requirements that have to be met before applying. I suggest thinking ahead at least two years, which is what we do in the U.S. as well. |

| Christine Meyer: عزيزي ياسر, شكرا علي سؤالك فهو مهم بالنسبة لى وبالنسبة للسفارة الامريكية بالقاهرة والحكومة الامريكية . ان برامج التبادل الثقافي هي احدي اهم طرق التعارف المتبادل بين الشعوب . ان برامج التبادل الثقافي تزيل الحواجز وتساعدنا علي معرفة اننا جميعا نكافح من اجل اهداف واحدة في الحياة وهي السلام , الرخاء والامان في جميع انحاء العالم. وتعد البرامج التعليمية جزء من هذا , حيث يقضى الطلبة أوقاتا يوميا معا في الدراسة والبحث . ومع نهاية هذه الفرصة , يكون المشارك والمضيف قد تعلما الكثير عن بعضهم البعض والكثير منهم يكونوا علاقات صداقة تستمر علي مدار حياتهم. |

| Christine Meyer: Hello Marco, The Community College Initiative through Fulbright might be the thing for you. It provides training and an English language component. It is a brand new program for Egypt. Also, Fulbright does offer programs for Masters, including some Engineering programs. |

| Christine Meyer: Hello and thank you for your question. Never say never - that is an American saying. Scholarships can be found in many different fields. Also, there are scholarships based on other criteria, such as scholarships for people from the Middle East, or scholarships for people with good grades, and scholarships for people who are active in their communities. Sometimes it takes a little bit of work to find an appropriate scholarship, but hard work usually pays off. Earlier in the chat I mentioned some resources, and I suggest that you use them as a starting point for your research.

One program that the U.S. government offers is the MEPI Summer Institute for Young Leaders. This program takes place at different universities across the U.S. Participants are from across the Middle East and U.S. They do leadership training and interact with U.S. students. When they return to Egypt and other countries, they work on projects together. |

The U.S. Government offers exchange opportunities to travel. In addition, many students fund themselves and other students receive private scholarships.

| Christine Meyer: Hello - transfering credits can be done in most cases. Once you have chosen a unversity, work with the university to see how they will calcualate your credits. Each univeristy uses its own system. Also, you can check with AMIDEAST, they have information on transfering between Egypt and the U.S.

RAMEZ ABDEL SATTAR : all the applicant for the scholarship for undergraduate studies must be still studing at the university ,so how can a student sacrifice with his university for one year inorder to join the program.i think its very difficult to leave his university inorder for usa scholarship |

| Christine Meyer: Hello - Sure, I'll talk about school. Students in the U.S., much like Egypt are very busy every day. Students take, on average, 12 class hours a week. BUT for each of these class hours, professors expect them to spend many more hours at home studying and researching. Many students in the U.S. are also active in student societies and sports. Outside of school, many students hold down jobs to help pay for their studies. |
