Mohamed : Mr Bill Stewart i would like to ask you to give A general idea about USA election in 2008 & how the procedures necessary for every one of participiants to go to final step of election??
i would like to ask you about the sharing to vote only usa citizens as i mean other nationalities in usa cant share in vote???????

A very good guide to the 2008 elections and the electoral process is available at http://uspolitics.america.gov/uspolitics/elections/index.html. www.America.gov also has a section on the candidates where you can read a short biography of each candidate and find a link to their website. You can also see how different candidates approach different international issues which are being discussed in the campaign at http://uspolitics.america.gov/uspolitics/elections/issues.html.

If you would like even more information, I suggest that you look at the websites of some of the major US newspapers. The New York Times, for example, has a whole section devoted to the 2008 campaign, including candidate information and stands on the issues. If you have a special interest in international issues, the Council on Foreign Relations has also produced a section of their website just to examine the candidates' views on key foreign policy issues. بالتأكيد فى حالة فوز حزب سياسي جديد سيكون له برنامجه الخاص ولكن هناك بعض المبادئ التي لن تتغير لأنهامبادئ أساسية لجميع الأمريكيين بإختلاف أحزابها السياسية.
فعلى سبيل المثال ترغب جميع الأحزاب السياسية فى رؤية السلام والإستقرار فى الشرق الأوسط كما تأمل جميع الأحزاب فى تحقيق تقدم فى مجال الحريات والديمقراطية فى الشرق الأوسط. كما أن جميع الأحزاب ستعمل على حماية حقوق الإنسان ودعمهافى جميع أنحاء العالم بما فى ذلك الشرق الأوسط

Bill Stewart: Thanks, Mahmoud. Good question. I think that most Americans are sophisticated enough to realize that they must choose their political leaders on the basis of ability, vision, and values and not on such things as gender, race, religion, or ethnicity.

أتفهم من سؤالك أنك تستفسر اذا ما كانت الحرب فى العراق مسألة مهمة للناخبين الأمريكيين. ووفقا لما شهدناه من مناظرات بين المرشحين فهذه القضية لا تزال تحظى بإهتمام كبير. فالأمريكيين مهتمين وقلقين بشأن الحرب فى العراق.
كما أنهم مهتمين أيضا بأمور إجتماعية محلية. والسياسة الأمريكية تتسع بما يكفى لتستوعب كلا الجانبين. لذلك فمن المهم أن نستمع جيدا لما يقوله المرشحون لأن هذه الإنتخابات لن تركز على قضية واحدة فقط.

المؤهلات واضحة وبسيطة. فوفقا لدستورنا تتضمن هذه المؤهلات أن تكون مواطنا أمريكياوألا يقل عمرك عن 35 عاماوأن تكون قد عشت لفترة لا تقل عن 14 عاما فى الولايات المتحدة. لا توجد شروط تتعلق بالمستوى التعليمى او المادي أو المهنى.

لماذا لا نتعرف على الخطه المقبله للمرشح ليس عن طريق الاعلام فقط بل عن طريق حق الاقتراع اى ان السفاره الامريكيه على سبيل المثال بالقاهره تقوم بعمل اقتراع على المرشحين ولنا الحق بالتصويت ولذلك لان رئيس امريكا لن يكون مسؤل عن امريكا فقط ولكن قراراته تمد الينا كمصرين او عرب او حتى جنسيات اخرى وبعد الاقتراع يحسب لكل مرشح نقطه من خلال هذه الدوله وتبعا لاهميه الدوله وحجمها السياسى يزداد عدد النقاط الخاصه بها -- الرجاء الاجابه ولو امكن من خلال الايميل الخاص بى amr4amr@hotmail.com

أنا أتفهم وجهة نظرك. فنظرا لأهمية الدور الذي تقوم به الولايات المتحدة على المستوى العالمى فمن الطبيعى أن يرغب الكثيرون في أن يكون لهم دور فى إختيار من سيقود الولايات المتحدة. نحن كأمريكيين لدينا نفس الرغبة ولذلك فنحن نعتز بحقنا فى التصويت كأحد أهم الحقوق التي نتمتع بها. وهذا يفسر حرصنا على ان يتمتع المواطنون فى الدول الأخرى بنفس هذه الحقوق فى بلدانهم.

السيناتور ماكين يؤيد المجهود الحربى فى العراق ويؤيد سياسة الرئيس بوش بزيادة عدد القوات الأمريكية لفترة مؤقتة لتحقيق أهدافهم.
ومن جانب آخر كان السيناتور أوباما من المرشحين القلائل الذين عارضوا الحرب فى العراق منذ البداية.
أما السيناتور كلينتون فقد أيدت غزو العراق فى البداية ولكنها تعارض الحرب الآن وتقول بأنها ستنهى الحرب فى حالة فوزها بالرئاسة.

كما تعلم فجميع رؤساء الولايات المتحدة يدلون بالقسم على ان يحافظوا على الدستور الأمريكى والذي يعتبر أحد أفضل المواثيق التى تتناول حقوق الإنسان. وكقائد للولايات المتحدة فإننا نطلق على الرئيس ايضا لقب " قائد العالم الحر". لأن أمريكا لا تزال المنبر المضيئ للحرية وأكبر مدافع عن حقوق الإنسان فى جميع أنحاء العالم. ولذلك فالرئيس لا يتخذ مجرد رؤية "حيادية" فقط نحو حقوق الإنسان بل يعمل جاهدا على دعمها ومناصرتها.

كما تعرف فعملية الإنتخاب لدينا عملية طويلة وصعبة جدا.
ولذلك يعمل كل المرشحين بجهد شديد ولفترات طويلة لتحقيق أهدافهم. حيث يسافرون مئات الألاف من الأميال ويلتقون بمئات الألاف من الأشخاص. ويجب أن يتمتعوا بالذكاء والتلقائية وأن يحافظوا على هدوئهم حتى فى أصعب اللحظات والمواقف الصعبة. وهذا فى حد ذاته تدريب ممتاز لوظيفة الرئيس. ويمكنك أن تثق أن اي مرشح سواء رجل او إمرأة يتمتع بقدر كافى من القوة والكفاءة اللازمة لإكمال هذه العملية سيكون قادرا على القيام بمهام منصب الرئيس بنجاح.

شكرا للسفارة الاميركية بمصر لاتاحة هذا الفرصة للحوار معكم حول هذه الانتخابات المختلفة والمثيرة.
هل تعتقد سيادتك، ان هذه التغيرات، والتي من بينها النجاحات التي حققها رجل اسود وسيدة (اوباما وكلينتون) خلال تنافسهما للفوز بترشيح حزبهما، هل يمكن اعتبارها مزيدا من النضج للديمقراطية الاميركية؟ او بكلمات اخري، هل يمكن اعتبارها اشارة تعكس مرحلة او موجة جديدة من التطور للديمقراطية والحرية والمساواة في اميركا؟ خاصة وان ربع الناخبين البيض اعطوا اصواتهم لاوباما في سوس كارولينا، وهو امر حسبما فهمت لم يكن متوقعا.

نعم أتفق معك أن الديمقراطية الأمريكية أكثر نضجا الآن مما كانت عليه منذ 25 عاما مضت. فأنا أتذكر حينما كنت صبيا كيف كان من الصعب تخيل أن يتولى رجل أسود أو سيدة منصب الرئيس. فنعم يمكن للديمقراطية ان تتطور حتى فى أمريكا.
فأمريكا الآن أكثر حرية وديمقراطية وتمنح المزيد من الفرص للجميع بإختلاف خلفياتهم عن أي وقت مضى.

مع أهمية قضية العراق الا أنها ليست القضية الوحيدة فى هذه الإنتخابات. كما تعرفين فقد أصبح هناك الكثير من الإهتمام مؤخرا بالقضايا الإقتصادية. وقد ترين ذلك مفاجئاولكن الأمريكيون مهتمون جدا بالعديد من القضايا الإجتماعية. ولذلك يجب على المرشحين أن يتفهموا العديد من القضايا ويتخذوا مواقف بشأنها. وبالرغم من صعوبة إرضاء الجميع طوال الوقت إلا أن المرشح أو المرشحة الناجحة يجب أن يقنع أغلبية الناخبين بأن لديه أو لديها أفضل إجابة لمعظم هذه القضايا.

Bill Stewart: Thanks, Soha, for your excellent question. You have clearly read up on the elections! It is true that it is unusual not to have a president or VP running, but this year you can understand why that might be -- President Bush is prevented from doing so by law, and Vice President Cheney has, for his own reasons, decided to sit this one out. Is it the start of a "trend"? I don't know. It takes time for trends to develop, so we'll have to wait and see. If by question number 2 you're asking me who I think will win -- well, that's a tough one. I do not have my crystal ball at hand, but it seems at this point that there are at least some clear front runners -- Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama for the Democrats, and John McCain (especially after Florida) and Mitt Romney for the Republicans. Perhaps the biggest surprise so far has been the disappointing showing of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an early front runner for the Republicans. One thing I will say: whoever wins in the end will be the best man -- or woman! -- for the job. The free U.S. media -- one of the pillars of our democratic society -- plays a large role in informing the voters and helping to shape the political debate. It is crucial to ensuring that our elections are truly free and fair, and provides a platform for genuine national debate on issues that concern us all.
