U.S., Danish, and Egyptian Governments Empower Next Generation Entrepreneurs at the NexGen IT Boot Camp

June 26, 2011

CAIRO— USAID Director in Egypt, Mr. James Bever, together with Egypt’s First Deputy to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Hoda Baraka, and Denmark’s Ambassador to Egypt, Christian Hoppe, today kicked off at SMART Village the week-long “NexGen IT Entrepreneurs Boot Camp Master Class” during which American and Danish business delegates will mentor 44 promising young Egyptian entrepreneurs on how to achieve business success.

“The world has learned from Egypt the power of using technology to help achieve dreams,” said USAID Director Bever in his opening remarks. “It is strong leaders like you who will increase economic freedoms for all Egyptians.”

This intensive and exciting IT-training program is a collaborative effort supported by the U.S. State Department’s Global Entrepreneurship Program, USAID’s Egypt Competitiveness Project, Government of Denmark, and TIEC, affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

The training will conclude on June 30 at Smart Village-Cairo with the announcement of four winning startup-companies. Prizes will include an internship at iContact in the U.S., training at Startupbootcamp in Denmark, presenting a business plan to top European investors, and training at Egypt’s Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre’s (TIEC) Incubation Program.

“To the entrepreneurs, you were chosen to participate in this Boot Camp because you have shown great promise, and we believe that you represent the next generation of Egypt’s business leaders,“ USAID Director Bever hailed the participants in concluding his address.

Among the American and Danish delegates leading the NexGen IT Boot Camp are prominent entrepreneurs such as Jeff Hoffman, CEO and founder of Priceline, and Alex Farcet, co-founder and Managing Director of Startupbootcamp.
